How to Unlock All Three Shortcuts – Spelunky 2 Wiki Guide

Last Edited:

Spelunky 2 will have you starting new runs over and over, and unless you have mastered the ins and outs to get through all zones in a whim, it quickly becomes a hard task. Thankfully, there’s a number of shortcuts that you can get to shorten those visits and resume right where you left.

This guide will cover how to unlock all three shortcuts in Spelunky 2, the requirements for each, and where exactly your spelunker will be starting from in each.

How Do Shortcuts Work

Whenever you exit through an area, which means surviving through four stages until 1-4, 2-4 and so on, the character Mamma Tunnel will appear just as you’re about to enter the new area. She will offer you to create a shortcut, which can then be accessed from the camp.

In order to make this happen, which we highly recommend you doing so, you will have to go through the exit three times with an specific item in hand. Once you’re done, an specific sound will play in the background, which will mean the shortcut is ready to use on your next run.

How to Unlock Them

In Spelunky 2, Mamma Tunnel will ask for items to create shortcuts in the following areas:

  • After 1-4, transitioning from Dwelling to either Jungle or Volcana
  • After 2-4, transitioning from either Jungle or Volcana to either the Tide Pool or Temple of Anubis, right after Olmec‘s Lair.
  • After 3-4, transitioning from either Tide Pool or Temple of Anubis to the Ice Caves.

These are the items you will need for each, in order:

1-4 to 2-1 shortcut (either Jungle or Volcana)

  • 2000 gold
  • 1 Bomb
  • 10,000 gold

2-4 to 3-1 (either Tide Pool or Temple of Anubis)

  • 1 Rope
  • Any weapon
  • Any mount

3-4 to 4-1 (Ice Caves)

  • 50,000
  • A hired companion
  • The Golden Key (found in the first area of the game)

Once you have all shortcuts in Spelunky 2, it will be much easier to go and look for secrets that you might have missed, collect missing enemies or items for your codex, or simply practice to get better at doing complete runs through all worlds. Best of luck out there!
